as you can see from the following diagram the diffrence between Opera Mini and Mobile is the way the application access the website. While Opera Mobile is able to render the page by itself, Opera mini is using the Opera servers to render and compress the pages before they are being sent to the browser. you can also see from the diagram that the Oper’s mini turbo also using Opera’s compression servers.

Having knowing the above one would expect to have some difference between the two applications. It was very interesting to find that both browsers working pretty much the same and the only difference is the support of very complicate web pages. The opera mobile displays those pages properly while the opera mini didn’t display them 100% properly.

The opera mobile consumes quite a lot of memory and you might need to close some applications while using it. The opera mini consume much less memory and I didn’t occur any memory problems.

Conclusion, unless there is a need to access very complex pages it’s better to use the Opera Mini, You are not missing anything.

Both application can be downloaded from Opera’s mobile site – http://m.opera.com/

Opera Mini designed to support phones with limited CPU and memory who can’t handle web page processing (rendering) locally. The Opera Mobile browser is capable of handling the pages locally although it’s possible also to use Opera’s server for handling the page rendering (Settings->turbo). I installed the Opera Mobile version 10 on my Nokia E72.

The reason for that is the need for Skyfire development team to focous on the new Skyfire 2.0 version. This version is not supported by Symbian and therefor not supported by Nokia E72.

If you have a lot of patient you can wait for the new Symbain version. It’s not on the first nor second priority list of the development team so I wouldn’t hold my breath for that.

Following list of supported countries after July 1st: United States, U.K., Canada, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Korea and Taiwan.

If your country isn’t listed above you might find Opera as the alternative browser to Skyfire. After playing with Opera 10 few minutes it looks like it’s even better then Skyfire. I’m planning on testing Opera 10 few more days and then write post about it.

World traveler is free application which is pre-installed on the Nokia E72. The application provides following information for free:

Weather worldwide (include daily update)

World map

But this time I would like to focus on one of the new plug-in, Connect.

Connect provides the ability to manage internet connections like I always wanted. The plug-in provides the service which the Network Destinations and Smart Connect application don’t provide.

The plug-in creates virtual destination and internet connection called: Psiloc connect.

Just use the above connection for all applications and the easy manage the connectivity to the internet.

Auto connection to Wifi networks when available instead of using expensive 3G connection

Block or allow 3G connection.

Block or allow 3G roaming.

It cost 12.28$, but after I paid 3$ for internet connectivity for less then a minute for me it worth it. For extra 2.5$ you’ll get also safe for protecting personal data.

SmartConnect (SC) was added to Nokia E72 as part of the last firmware update (031.023). The purpose of this application it to allow easy and fast connection to the internet. let’s see if it does the job like it should…

I would expect this kind of application to support following features:
1. definition of connections groups (Both 3G and WiFi)
2. Auto switching between connections according to priorities
3. Auto connection to WiFi hot spots with portal

Not sure why Nokia decided to add this application to the phone, They should have provide application that provides a real value to it’s users. What do you think?

The configuration of the network destination can be found under the following menus: Menu -> Ctrl. Panel-> Settings-> Connection -> Destinations.

By default following destinations exist: Access Point, Internet, Multimedia msg., WAP services, Intranet, Uncategorized. New connections are added by default to the Uncategorized destination.

You might ask what the point of using this other then having the network connections organized?

Some of the applications network configuration works only with netowrk destination, it’s not possible to select specific connection. Nokia email’s client and Nokia’s internet browser are using this type of configuration. When adding new configuration pay attention to categorize it under the right destination so you’ll be able to use the application.

Everything is wireless today, bluetooth, Wifi and 3G networks. You might wonder why do I need the data cable supplied with Nokia E72? The answer in the following post.

Connect PC to the Web – If you have 3G data plane you can use this option to connect you laptop or PC to the internet. you will need the “Nokia PC Internet Access” to use it. But no worries if the software is not installed on the laptop/PC you can install it when connecting the cable for the first time.

The default behavior can be changed to suite your needs, go to Menu-> Ctrl. Panel-> Settings-> Connectivity-> USB. USB mode – Default behavior when connecting the cable. Ask on connection – if changed to NO the option menu will not appear when connecting the cable.

It’s a small cable with many options, why not to carry it in your case?

If you looked at my previous post about Nokia E72 internal browser you saw that some people comment that the best browser for Nokia E72 is Skyfire. And of course they are right, Skyfire is really good internet browser which provides almost like PC surfing experience.

Download the application using the Nokia E72 web browser http://m.skyfire.com

The first thing you will notice is the ability to quickly type the address of the site you want to navigate to. Start typing the address and the skyfire will suggest matching web site. it is also possible to search google straight from the address bar.

if you’ll wait few more seconds you will be able to use the home page features:

Recent Searches.

Popular sites.

Direct updates from Facebook and twitter.

History

Bookmarks

Ability to register so all your bookmarks will be saved in your account.

The Skyfire also supports video stream include audio!!, just surf to youtube site and click on the video and watch the video, it’s that easy.

Navigating a page is done using the navigation key and 3 to zoom in and 1 to zoom out. when moving around the navigation key you will notice a grey square, if you would like to zoom in this area click on 3, you can repeat this action to zoom more. On click is to click on buttons and links and 2 clicks are used for quick zoom in/ zoom out.

I used this browser with quite complicate websites including web sites that contains flash and it works without any problem.

Complete keyboard shortcuts:
* -Address Bar
0 – Mute
1- Zoom In
2- Scroll Up
3- Zoom Out
4- Add to Bookmarks
5-Refresh
7-Backward
8- Scroll Down
9-Forward
Middle Navigation key to select
It’s also possible to save or share pictures by pressing the middle navigation key for a few seconds and then selecting the desired action
