Just a quick post to update that Facebook as an official app for Nokia E72.

It’s actually subset of the great Snaptu application.

The application works great and supports many of the Facebook feature:

Upload pictures include taking a picture and upload straight from the app

To download the app using the Nokia E72 browser and navigate to http://m.facebook.com

OVI – Gifts of premium applications

Nokia offers free premium applications and games for a period of 30 days.

Just enter the ovi store application on your Nokia E72 and you will be prompted for the gifts.

New Firmware 071.004

New firmware available for the Nokia E72, The new firmware version is 071.004.

The update is done using the NOKIA OVI Suite or OTA (Over The Air).

Nokia OVI Suite

Connect the Nokia E72 to the PC, and start the Nokia OVI Suite.

Click on Software update then the application backup the phone, download the application and upgrade the phone. The process takes about 15 minutes.

Over The Air

Type *#0000# -> Options -> Check for update.

054.005 firmware update

Getting some comments on the new Nokia E72 firmware update, 054.005. On my Nokia E72 I can’t see the update yet, you are wecloned to comment if you got the new update or have any info about it…

Update (30/04/2011):

After my E72 got stuck I had to hard rest the phone. Then I connected the phone to the PC and open OVI Suite. In the OVI suite got a message about the new 054.005 firmware update. It seems that this update is not available Over-The-Air (OTA).

Today I go this pop up message on the phone: “Software update available”.It’s the first time that I got this kind of message.

After confirming the message following screen appears

As you can see in the attached, the update is describes as critical.

Clicking on Options->View Details, provides the following information

When to reset the E72?

When the E72 doesn’t work like it should you should consider to reset the phone. Menu get stuck, applications doesn’t work, etc’ also sign that it’s time to reset the phone.
Also after upgrading the phone firmware it’s good idea to reset the phone.

There are two types of reset, Hard reset and Soft reset.

Soft reset – Doesn’t involves deletion of user data (Contacts, SMS, etc’) . Type *#7780# from the standby screen. The Default security code is 12345.

Hard rest- Erase all phone content but usually works better in solving problems. Also recommended after phone firmware upgrade .
Type *#7370# from the standby screen. The Default security code is 12345.

E72- Battery Emergency

Your are in the middle of the day and you just found out that only few hours lefts until your Nokia E72′s battery drains dead, What to do?

Following few tips how to get more of your E72′s battery when needed (Not for a normal daily usage) :

Activate the power saving – The E72′s automatically activates the “power saving mode” when battery low. If you would like to activate it earlier, press shortly the power button and select “Activate the power saving”.
Change to GSM network – Most providers has two networks: GSM and UMTS. UMTS network supports faster data connection but also requires more battery power. Change the network to GSM to save battery power, Menu -> Ctrl. Panel->settings->Phone->Network-> Network Mode-> GSM.
Turn off Bluetooth - Long press on the “Sym” button to turn off the Bluetooth (If it’s ON).
Turn off WiFI connection and automatic scan – Menu -> Ctrl. Panel-> Settings->Connection-> Wireless LAN->Show WLAN availability -> Never.
Close all other applications – Each running application consumes power, close all unnecessary applications.

Y-Browser – For advanced users only!

The default file manager (Menu->Office->file Mgr.) is quite limited, it doesn’t allow access to some of the folders, it’s not possible to change default application and it doesn’t handle folders with long file list.

Y-Browser provides solution for all of the above limitations.
The application displays all phone drivers include system drivers and folders. it display very quickly folders with hundreds of files and sub-folders. Batch copy/cut and paste is possible using smart mark options such as mark all and inverse mark. It has also smart file search with multiple search criteria. One of the nicest features, for heavy users, is the ability to define default application when opening files. For example if you have application for movies you will be able to open movies files straight from the browser without having the need to open them from the movie application.

Since the application provide access to system files and folders I would recommend to use it only for advanced users only.

Ovi maps on Nokia E72 – Installation

In this post I will write about Ovi maps installation procedure. Ovi maps is Nokia’s free navigation application. The application is using the internal GPS and digital compass to find the location and to provide turn-by-turn instructions. There is no need for internet connection while navigating.

Download and Install ovi suite on your PC. The application is needed for installing the Ovi maps latest version on the phone and management of the maps.
Connect the phone to the PC using the data cable.
Start the Ovi suite program on your PC and click on the software updates. If the updates include Ovi maps application, install it. The Ovi maps application software version should be 3.03 or higher.
Click on the maps tab
Select country maps to install.
Select voice guidance language to install.

Maps installation and downloads can take more the several minutes. Its possible to install more then one country map and voice guidance.
