Ovi maps on Nokia E72 – Installation


ovi-maps-ui-gps-upgrade-420-90 In this post I will write about Ovi maps installation procedure. Ovi maps is Nokia’s free navigation application. The application is using the internal GPS and digital compass to find the location and to provide turn-by-turn instructions. There is no need for internet connection while navigating.

  1. Download and Install ovi suite on your PC. The application is needed for installing the Ovi maps latest version on the phone and management of the maps.
  2. Connect the phone to the PC using the data cable.
  3. Start the Ovi suite program on your PC and click on the software updates. If the updates include Ovi maps application, install it. The Ovi maps application software version should be 3.03 or higher.
  4. Click on the maps tab
  5. Select country maps to install.
  6. Select voice guidance language to install.

Maps installation and downloads can take more the several minutes. Its possible to install more then one country map and voice guidance.

    I recently got a message that a new version of Ovi Maps is available and that I should update mine. After doing, I realize that the ability to secure GPS connection has become longer and sometime erratic while Google Maps is comparatively faster. Find it really strange that Nokia’s own software on its own hardware is slower than that of competitions.

    i have bought the mobile recently ( august 2010 ) … I do have the latest ovi maps installed on the mobile … the problem i face is with the compass … from the date of purchase, only once it has worked … And the vendor informed me of the necessity of internet to use the maps … what do you say ??

    i experienced these issues as well.
    this may help

    go to:
    Ctrl Panel>>Setting>>General>>Positioning.
    Ensure Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS and Network GPS are checked.

    there’s no need for internet connection if you already downloaded (via pc) the maps of the countries you want into the phone. bear in mind that downloaded maps are only in map view…no sattelite or no terrain.those need to be downloaded (via e73) realtime.

    i personally still use Nokia PC Suite n Nokia MapLoader as I find them to be more stable on my pc compared to N Ovi Suite.

    I could fix the problem in a little different way
    1.) Remove/Uninstall Nokia Maps(Not OVI maps) from Application Manager
    2.) Select only Assisted GPS & Integrated GPS from positioning Settings
    3.) Select your Packet Data for the Access point option in positioning server.
    4.) Ready to navigate. Just start Maps & wait 5 Secs.

    i bought an e72, im from bolivia but the ovi maps dont show the streets names, actually dont show nothing only the name of the city ? how can i update to have the complete street names of the city?

      Sygic GPS navigation is far better than the one provided by OVi

    hi ashaj otherwise nr 4. Haha.

    I did what you comented, but wasn’t succesful.
    When I open the maps, it asks for the connection and I then select my internet connection and then it just states connection failed.

    On the screen with the option to select maps, drive, walk etc. It states please sign in on the top left of the screen

    I have this phone for almost 6 months and couldnt get the maps neither the gps to work. Any other plans to help me with?

    I dont understand the title and whole article which seems to be wrong. Well if the gps in my e72 doesnt need an internet connection then why am i being charged by use of GPS NAVI in my e72 ??? It needs at least gprs connection which isnt free ! Anyone has a solution ? Because if I set my mobile on the offline mode GPS cannot connect and show me my position, however when its on the general profile I am still being charged for the use of it. (VODAFONE here CONTRACT)

    ovi maps works perfect on my e72 in Jamaica..accurate directions and such 99% of the time. I have the nokia data plan though on a 3g network- (although the 3g only work in the more popular areas) but even on edge…it works
