Opera Mini vs Opera Mobile on the E72


Recently I wrote a post about Opera mobile 10 web browser. Several people comment that the Opera mini is also not so bed. So I decided to download it and try.

as you can see from the following diagram the diffrence between Opera Mini and Mobile is the way the application access the website. While Opera Mobile is able to render the page by itself, Opera mini is using the Opera servers to render and compress the pages before they are being sent to the browser. you can also see from the diagram that the Oper’s mini turbo also using Opera’s compression servers.


Having knowing the above one would expect to have some difference between the two applications.  It was very interesting to find that both browsers working pretty much the same and the only difference is the support of very complicate web pages. The opera mobile displays those pages properly while the opera mini didn’t display them 100% properly.

The opera mobile consumes quite a lot of memory and you might need to close some applications while using it. The opera mini consume much less memory and I didn’t occur any memory problems.

Conclusion, unless there is a need to access very complex pages it’s better to use the Opera Mini, You are not missing anything.

    Just got my E72 and I just used to surf using operamini 4.2 faster than opera mobile.

    Opera Mobile 10 hogs memory on the E72. Frequently get the Memory Full error whereas in the E71 it works perfectly fine. E72 is a great phone except for the memory issue. Hope a firmware update is round the corner to solve this memory bug

    Hi all..hmm opera mini vs mobile.. they both got diff rendering method and memory usage. on E72 it has 128mb of RAM, but actually the available free RAM after startup is about 40mb usable. Opera mobile 10 cost high RAM usage which is about 25mb (after u open a site) instead of opera mini 5.1 (recomended ver. for mini opera) which only takes 10-15mb max.
    –>some major diffs: opera mobile gives you pc web browser experience, while opera mini quite not.
    –>opera mobile gives u smoother texts and images. while opera mini less than
    –>opera mobile supported and displayed flash picture on page ex: flash pics, texts, symbols,emoticons, etc.. (opera mini does not)
    –>opera mobile supported copy-paste with so easily like ‘pc web browser’ (just long press middle key/press key 1, then start mark selected text and copy it. then u can easily paste on 1*phone text messages, notes, quickoffice, any blank boxes*. while opera mini 4.2 not supported. and opera mini 5.1 a lil bit complicated, u CAN’T paste it on 1* text mssg,notes,qkoffice..that easily, u need to paste it on any blank boxes first (and must still on opera mini app) then u may copy-paste into 1*.
    –>opera mobile gives you options: wether to load images or not. if u choose not, while u on web page u can still show the images (go to setting check the ‘load images’ then it will be automatic reload and show ‘ONLY images’ on ur page so FASTER. while opera mini asks u to reload ‘ALL PAGES’ or not. it takes abit too long and much data cost.
    *the cool one is when u choose setting not to load images, u still can load ‘selected image’ u want just move ur cursor on selected un-shown image, and press key 1 and ‘load image’ there you go the selected image is reload and shown to u.
    –>opera mobile can ZOOM page max to 200% while opera mini can no.

    hey! do u ve any idea how can i copy paste text in a touch phone with opera mobile 10. i ve nokia 5530 but i am unable to copy paste text …. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Does anybody know how (if possible) to use opera mini in wifi mode (free) instead or 3g (paid data).

    @Jawsepine Nice set of tips. I have recently installed Opera Mobile on my E72 and these tips are really helpful in getting rich browser experience compared to the default browser provided by S60.

    hlo e1, does any one know …how to use any wifi net (which is restricted by pass -log in page) for free.
    one of my frend do it by using Opera mini 10, but i fortunately i lost my friends contact number. he had a nokia e72 & opera mini 10…….when he turned on his wifi, his phone found a network & he connected , but when he tried to browse a page , the page redirected him to their (wifi provider) page & ask him to log in with user name & password…….after changing some option of opera mini 10 (likely …proxy,turbo off,othrs) he had succeed. bt i forgot that option he had changed…..does any one know how to do that??? if any one know thn let me know wth e-mail(foyfox@gmail.com) thnx in advance.

    honestly, i’ve found that opera mini renders pages better than mobile in some cases…

    Hsbc…i cant properly login to see my bank information using mobile. Works fine with mini.

    Gmail…i cant use html view in mobile…. I can in mini.
