Fring – Use your Nokia E72 to Communicate with friends


96x99_fring I like to communicate with friends and family using messenger on my E72. It’s better then using SMS or MMS, it’s free, I can transfer files and pictures, bi directional chat and even VoIP calls supported . Most of us using more then one messenger application, so installing and running multiple applications on the E72 is not the right solution. Fring provides you the ability to communicate with friends and family who are using different messengers in one simple interface.

Fring 3.4 on Nokia E72 supports following messengers and features:

  • Skype              - Chat,  Voice calls, File Transfer
  • Google Talk  - Chat, Voice Calls
  • MSN                - Chat, Voice Calls, File Transfer
  • ICQ                  - Chat
  • Yahoo MSG  - Chat

Currently Fring version 4 is not supported by Nokia E72.This version supports  Skype video calls as well.

Additionally if you have SIP account you can use the Fring to place and receive voice calls. I’m using Gizmo5 account and it works great.

Fring provides access to additional social netowrk such as Twitter, last.fm and Facebook. I found it unfriendly and slow, in my opinion it’s better to use other applications for these services.

The application can be download from the ovi store, browsing from the Nokia E72 browser to http://m.fring.com or using the attached barcode.


After installation, run the application. first screen create fring account and then select relevant messanger accounts and type your personal username, password for each account.

Fring supports connectivity via WIFI and Cellular network. In Options > Settings > Connectivity it’s possible to configure access group of WIFI and Cellular access point to connect through.

    Good call – I never got round to trying Fring on my N82. Will give it a shot.

    Good one, does fring support Video call on nokia E72? Fring video call is awesome feature which is missing in Skype, Vopium and rest of the apps.

      Currently Fring version 4 which includes the Skype video calls feature is not supported by the Nokia E72. I guess they will add this feature soon since it’s already supported by the N97,N95 8GB and N82.

    I installed Fring on my N82 (still waiting for my E72 to get delivered) and it is indeed great. Has anyone tried Nimbuzz? It seems to have similar features to Fring.

    Hi,

    I was just trying to reinstall fring on my nokia e72, after seeing your comments that version 4 is not yet supported, but ver. 3.4. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t work/open on my phone. Trying to open fring, phone screen is flickering for less then a second and then nothing :( . Please advice how to fix it

    I would try to remove fring reset the phone and then reinstall it.

    Same thing happened to me too on my e72….i tried removing and reinstalling many times..but still same thing happned. I even reinstalled my e72 software(thought it will remove fring fully) but to no avail. so finally i removed fring and never to install it. but after a month wen i tried it again it finally worked(it asked me to login which never happened before). now am using it. waiting to try video call as soon fring 4 comes for e72.

    Arun when ever you install fring it ask you to creat an account on fring, later you would be able to logon again…
    same here I am waiting for fring version that can work with video calls on Nokia E72. its an awesome phone …

    The Video version of FRING is now out for NOKIA E72, E71, E75 and most other Symbian v9.3 phones. I just downloaded and used it and it’s awsome. Hope this helps you guys.
